Kyllian Mbappe: Monaco ‘accepts’ Real Madrid’s record bid

 Kylian Mbappe   AS Monaco’s teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe may be on his way to Real Madrid, reports in Spain suggested on Tuesday. Spanish sports publication Marca said Monaco have accepted Real Madrid’s bid of £161 million for the teenager. But French newspapers Le Parisien and Nice Matin said  Monaco had denied the report. Both Arsenal and Real Madrid were the leading contenders willing to acquire the service of the French striker but Gunners manager Arsene Wenger, who was believed to have held a one-on-one meeting with the player, pulled out of the race. The 18-year-old scored six goals in ten Champions League outings and 15 in Ligue 1 as he exploded onto the scene in the second half of last season, and has been constantly linked with Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain, amongst others.

Insufficient sleep may lead to obesity, study suggests

People who have insufficient sleep are more likely to be overweight and obese, accompanying poorer metabolic health conditions, according to a latest study by British researchers. The study, led by the Leeds Institute of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine and the School of Food Science and Nutrition, involved 1,615 adults in Britain aging from 19 to 65. The team collected blood samples from the participants and recorded their sleep duration, food intake, body weight, waist circumference and blood pressure, together with a number of other data to study the relationship between sleep duration, diet, weight and other indicators of overall metabolic health. The research showed that people who were sleeping an average of six hours each night had waist measurements about 3 cm more than getting nine hours of sleep per night. Nigeria’s service chiefs relocate to Maiduguri over Boko Haram

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Burutai, and the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar, have relocated to Maiduguri as directed by the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo. They arrived the Command and Control Centre in Maiduguri on Tuesday. Maj-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, disclosed this to newsmen in Maiduguri. “Right now, we will be having an interactive session with the Service Chiefs where they will be briefed about the ongoing operation,” Attahiru said. He said that their relocation to Maiduguri was imperative toward achieving the overall objectives of the counter-insurgency operation. He said the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin, and other heads of military commands would also be attending the meeting.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) for the fourth quarter (Q4 2016) showed that 81,151, 885 workers spent 37.38 million hours during the period to contribute N29.29 trillion to the economy at an average productivity rate of N783.51. A baby in India was born “pregnant” with his half-formed twin in a rare case that has astonished the medical fraternity in the country.
