Aregbesola buries mum amid tributes

The remains of the late mother of Osun State governor, Alhaja Saratu Aregbesola were interred yesterday in Ilesa, in accordance to Islamic rites.The burial was delayed until Governor Rauf Aregbesola returned from a trip to Kebbi State where he was attending a meeting of All Progressives Congress (APC) governors.
Aregbesola arrived Ilesa, to the welcome of his family members, Deputy Governor, Titi Laoye-Tomori and members of APC who had gathered to pay their last respect to the deceased.
Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheik Musa Animasaun led other Islamic clerics to offer two Rakat prayers during the burial rites. Top government functionaries in the state were also present at the burial.
However, tributes have continued to pour in for the late matriarch of the Aregbesola clan popularly called ‘’Iya Olobi.’’Former governor of the state, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, said that Alhaja Aregbesola lived a life worthy of emulation.
Oyinlola, in a message released on Tuesday noted the exceptional bond between Governor Aregbesola and his mother, adding that he should be consoled by the fact that his mother lived a good life.
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commiserated with Governor Rauf Aregbesola, whose mother, Saratu Aregbesola passed away in the early hours of yesterday. The party said it received the news with sadness.
“As we mourn the passing on to glory of the octogenarian, we also have cause to be grateful to Allah for the life of a great woman, who gave birth to the governor of Osun,” the party said in a statement by its chairman, Gboyega Famodun.
Also, the Osun chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condoled the governor over the incident.A statement by the chairman, Soji Adagunodo, described the death of the governor’s mother as painful in spite of her old age.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi has commiserated with his Osun State counterpart, over the death of his mother.A statement by the Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Yomi Layinka, said the governor described Madam Aregbesola’s demise as depressing and disheartening.Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, the Osun State House of Assembly and other prominent Nigerians, also sent their condolences yesterday.
