Arsenal are set to spend £200m in the summer to fix their squad - and under-fire manager Arsene Wenger will be staying. Wenger's relationship with Gunners chief executive Ivan Gazidis is becoming strained as the 67-year-old Frenchman delays a decision over his future. Arsenal should sack Wenger and appoint Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri, 49, as his replacement, says former Gunners midfielder Stewart Robson. Chelsea want to sign Monaco's French left-back Benjamin Mendy, 22, while Manchester City and Liverpool are also keen on the former Marseille player. The Blues' Belgium international forward Eden Hazard, 26, is not yet ready to join an elite club like Real Madrid, says former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly, 48. Chelsea and Netherlands midfielder Marco van Ginkel, 24, is wanted by Fenerbahce and PSV Eindhoven, where he is on loan, this summer. Manchester City's Spain winger Jesus Navas, 31, is expected to rejoin Sevilla when hi

Borussia Dortmund football team bus hit by explosions

Image
Three explosions have hit a bus carrying the Borussia Dortmund football team to their home Champions League quarter-final match against Monaco. In a press conference, the head of Dortmund police said it was a targeted attack on the team. Spain international Marc Bartra was taken to hospital with an injury to his hand. No other players were hurt. The first indications were that this was an "attack with serious explosives", Dortmund police said. The match was postponed until 18:45 local time (16:45 GMT) on Wednesday. Pictures from the scene showed the bus's windows broken and tyres burst in the blasts. The state prosecutor said that a letter found near the scene was being examined as part of the investigation. Bartra broke a bone in his wrist and had to undergo an operation. Police said that "three explosive charges had detonated" at Hoechsten outside the city at about 19:00 local time. Fans at the 80,000-capacity Signal Iduna Park were told to stay

Alabama governor Robert Bentley resigns over alleged affair with top aide

Image
labama Gov. Robert Bentley resigned on Monday rather than face impeachment and pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor campaign violations that arose during an investigation of his alleged affair with a top aide. In a remarkable fall, the mild-mannered 74-year-old Republican and one-time Baptist deacon stepped down as the sex-tinged scandal gathered force over the past few days. Legislators turned up the pressure by opening impeachment hearings on Monday. Last week, the Alabama Ethics Commission cited evidence that Bentley broke state ethics and campaign laws and referred the matter to prosecutors.

Senate Shuns Saraki’s Order, Fails To Pass 2017 Budget Till Further Notice

Contrary to its promise that it would pass the 2017 Budget on or before the end of March, the Senate, on Tuesday, again, failed to pass the Appropriation Bill, before embarking on a two-weeks Easter break. Recall, that Senate President, Bukola Saraki, had in January, promised that the budget which was submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari before a joint session of the National Assembly, on the 15th of December, 2016, would be passed early, in order to enable Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, commence early implementation. However, it was gathered that about eight Committees were yet to submit their reports to Sen. Danjuma Goje-led Appropriations Committee, despite an ultimatum issued by Saraki to that effect. The 2016 Appropriation Act was signed into law on the 6th of May, 2016, by President Buhari. The lifespan of the budget is expected to expire on the 5th of May, 2017. As at the time the Senate will resume from its Easter break on April 25, the 2016 budget will
